Customize Your Desktop Folders

Are you sick of those boring blue folders on your desktop? This quick video shows you how you can change them and customize them to your needs and personality.
Sick of those ugly blue folders that you have on your desktop. Never Fear... Custom Folder Icons are here! This tutorial is for Macs but you I am sure there is a way to do something similar with PCs! Here is a video to show you how to do it.

It would be easy to have different colored folders for different aspects of your life (school, TPT, blog, home documents). Plus, since you can make your own images using a program of your choice, the options are truly endless.

You can also use this to edit the images of PDFs and other files that you keep on your desktop. I know my TpT Terms of Use file is way more beautiful now that it doesn't have an ugly white PDF symbol as its image.

Are you going to customize your desktop? I would love to see pictures! Be sure to share on Instagram and tag me @casdahl... so I can see!

  1. Perfect timing! I have been asking all my tech friends at school how to do this and no one knows. I am excited to try out hot pink folders. :) Thanks so much!

  2. Your desktop is so clean! I really need to do a clean up on my home Mac, but this may give me the push I need. P.S. Is it weird that I was also curious to hear what your voice sounded like? Now I have a voice in my head when I read all of your posts, including the Northern accent. :)
    THanks for the tip!

  6. I customized my file folder with icons! My blog button for my Blog folder, the TPT logo for my TPT folder, my grad school logo for my grad school folder...you get the picture! The rest of the folders I made pink to match my wallpaper. I also figured out that you do not need to open a blank document like Power Point to copy the clipart. Once you click and drag the clipart to your desktop, double-click to open it. Once it opens in "Preview", press "COMMAND" and "A" to select the entire image and then "COMMAND" and "C" to copy it. VIOLA! Hopefully this helps eliminate that extra step to save you some time. Thanks for this awesome tip! :-)

    1. Hello! To undo, you would simply create a new folder (which gives you the default folder icon) and click into the info and copy/paste into the settings of your existing folders. Hope this helps!
